Squirrel Traps & BaitThe most effective method to get rid of squirrels! We recommend live traps. By using a live trap with bait, you can capture the squirrel unharmed and easily carry the trap outside your home. After capture, release the squirrel in a field at least 10 miles away. Squirrels are territorial and will return if released too close to home.We strongly recommend that you use a professional bait, such as Trappers Choice Paste. This non-toxic bait has been formulated in such a way that squirrels cannot ignore it. A tablespoon of it placed on the trip pan in the trap is strong enough to attract any squirrel. You will need to add some Sunflower seeds as a visual aid. Nuts or seeds do not give off enough aroma to attract squirrels, but when added to the bait, they are a combination that will attract squirrels from quite some distance away. This allows for quicker catches. Once you've relocated the squirrel, wait two weeks to be sure there are no others, then it's time to seal up the hole they used to enter your attic.

We carry only commercial, professional-quality traps.
Don't waste your money on a basic trap commonly found in hardware stores. Although these traps have been around a long time, they will not work as well as newer commercial designs.
Our live traps work well on all types of squirrels. They are easy to use, even if you have never used a trap before. Available in two sizes. |

Where to set live traps Live traps are best set in areas where the squirrels are traveling. If in the attic, look for disturbed insulation, chewed wood, or animal droppings. Then set the trap(s) near there. Do not inspect the traps more than once a day unless you know something has been caught. Squirrels are great observers and if you are seen repeatedly, you will spook them. Be sure to use a tablespoon of Trappers Choice bait. This blend of nuts and oils has an aroma that will last for days. Put a tablespoon on the trip pan of your trap and smear it over the metal pan evenly. Next, add birdseed or sunflower seeds behind the trip pan as a visual aid. When squirrels find the trap they expect to see a lot of seed due to the strong smell. Remember to be generous with the bird seed. 5 or 10 seeds behind the trip pan may not be enough to get them inside; there must be a feast waiting for them in order to make it worth the risk. Don't be afraid of adding 1/2 to 1 lb of loose seed. Place most of the seeds behind the trip pan, but be sure to place some seeds in front of the trap and leading to the door. This will allow them to follow the trail and find the entrance. Follow the instructions that come with the trap to set the spring loaded door. How to prevent further problems Bird feeders are a major attraction to squirrels. We all enjoy the birds and there is no need to give up feeding the birds. But, many bird feeders offer squirrels a free meal. Squirrel resistant bird feeders are a better choice and are often available at local hardware or department stores. They usually have spring loaded doors or other features to discourage the squirrels. Squirrels are not shy and will go to great lengths to make a nest in your warm dry attic if you let them. Keeping the eaves and gables of your home's roof sealed will go a long way in preventing entry to your attic. Check the screens and vents periodically to be sure they are intact. Use wood, caulk, or expanding spray foam to close any gaps or holes. | |||||
