Small Ants

There are many species of ants across the United States and even more around the world. Fortunately, there is a 3 prong approach which can be applied to all of these ants.
  1. baiting the inside of your home
  2. spraying the outside foundation walls
  3. baiting the outside yard
First, use bait gels or bait stations inside your home:

Gourmet Ant Bait Gel is a very safe and easy way to deal with unwanted ants. The gel comes in a plastic syringe. You simply remove the cap and gently squeeze the gel along the baseboards or in your cabinets.

Maxforce FC Ant Bait Stations are irresistible to ants and they are certified to be child resistant. The ants will find the bait, eat it, and bring it back to the nest.

Spray Pyrethrin Aerosol when just a few ants are found indoors. It uses natural ingredients, so it is safe and easy to use. This is what is often used in restaurants and food processing plants.

While indoor baits may kill an existing colony, they won't prevent new ones from coming back. An exterior barrier is needed for that.

Second, spray the outside of your home's foundation with a residual insecticide to repel the ants. Dilute some Suspend SC and use one of our Pump Sprayers to apply a band around the home 2-3 feet wide. Try to go two feet up the foundation and one foot out away from the home. Treat around window and door frames. Spray pipes, electric cables, and air conditioners because all of these places may be pathways into your home.

Third, ants travel all the time and can forage several hundred yards from their nest. It is likely the ant activity in your home came from a nest located in the yard.

If these nests are allowed to survive, the odds are high that ants will get back into your home - even after doing the first two steps of ant defense! To get complete control of the ants around your home, you will need to treat in the grass and mulch areas.

The best overall product for baiting ant colonies in your yard is Maxforce Insect Bait Granules. They hold up well to rain and sun and will usually last 2-3 months per application. When spreading granules over large areas, a Granule Spreader makes the job much easier and spreads the granules evenly.
